dr.boogey mod by kantul.

We know Dr.Boogey is stompboxes intended to simulate Rectifier sound. But its sound is somewhat different from ampli to be simulated. I’ve built tube preamp using single rectifier schematic, I got it from schematic heaven. The sound is different too. Anyway lets talk about dr.boogey mod that i’ve been doing.

Transistor combination:

Q1: MPF102
Q2: J201
Q3: 2N5458
Q4: J201
Q5: MPF102

You can start biasing with voltmeter or just use your ears. You will listen different sound while you set trimmer on different setting. Get your best sound! perhaps we have different taste.

Tonestack

Some of my friend have trouble with tone control on this effect.
In general, they get the sound which is very much treble, less bass and middle control does not help get the right sound.

What I do to solve that problem is limiting some frequencies on pot control. I realize DB tonestack is passive, so it can’t boost, just allow to cut all frequencies.

schematic:

Note:

Wiring connection
Blue : connect to bass pot – 3
Green : connect to treble pot – 3
Orange: connect to middle pot – 2
Grey : connect to ground

I use dr.boogey Gaussmarkov version of which its tonestack values is scaled x10. You only need to connect this board into dr.boogey mainboard.
I also use 4.7 nf on treble. While you can use diferent value capacitor depending your amp.
Good luck.

PCB

Front panel

It’s my first preamp project, I finished building this  last april. It works well. My apologies that I haven’t had time to post it here. I’m still looking for good knobs and need to write something on its front panel.
